“Traveling to our region from PDX just got easier and more convenient with all of our rental car partners on site and with easy access through the building,” said Dan Pippenger, chief operating officer of the Port of Portland. “The new rental car center brings us one step closer to reducing congestion on our roads by eliminating rental car shuttles and moving our shared vehicles to a new location in summer 2022.”
PDX currently serves 11 rental car partners – now all within walking distance of the site: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Thrifty, including new additions Sixt and Zipcar.
The rental car center features three new permanent art installations that celebrate the diversity of our region along the way to pick up a car: Ben Butler’s piece is a curved wood installation inspired by the region’s history with Douglas fir; The plant that Perez Westbrooks created a 20-foot-tall and 40-foot-wide digital art mural is native to the Pacific Northwest. And DeWitt Godfrey has a statue outside a rental car center opening in spring 2022.
The rental car center is investing in a new technology called Carbon Cure, which reduces carbon emissions by permanently trapping more carbon dioxide in concrete. PDX is the first in the region to use this low-carbon concrete and, by bringing the technology to Portland, it is now available to other projects in the region.
